dance camp

Very quick update before i chiong off to school! Just back from a 2 days dance camp. It was tiring, i was hungry most of the time, my muscles ached like never before, but it was imba-ly inspiring. I was very touched by how all the instructors gave us sincere advices on how to improve ourselves to bring the entire dance scene in singapore to a higher level. Very inspired by both our seniors and juniors alike, by how the seniors are still at the guan yin niang niang level as always, and the juniors for not giving up even when the seniors left the dance.

Okay here's a song we did at the camp that i found very depressing. HAHA okay its meant to be an emo piece la. Do listen!

Happy date :)

on Monday Yixin and I went to east coast park to cycle. we reached there unexpectedly early, and got our bikes at 1045am. met Joseph who was working at the rollerblade store there, and it seems he's doing very well - his previous transaction was over a thousand dollars! it was such good weather, we had fun enjoying the breeze at the jetty, taking jump shots at the pretty hibiscus garden, and just taking in the sunlight as we rode.

see the pretty white clouds!

and cos we had so much time (it's buy 1hr free 2hrs on weekdays) we cycled to the more ulu parts of ecp. found a big carl's jnr and a fitness corner. I made Yixin do his pull ups so he handed me his ring to keep. then when I wanted to return him his ring, he didn't receive it properly and it dropped and rolled right into a drain! he had a mini tantrum about it-.- he tried to lift the grate but it looked like it was sealed tight. so we got some branches and tried to hook the ring out. some ang moh came over and asked what happened, then he went to pick up another crooked branch for us. he watched as Yixin balanced the ring precariously at the tip of the branch, and seemed to be quite amused as he said "good skill!" haha. after a while we still couldn't get it out, and he said "are you sure this thing doesn't open" and he tried and tah dah! it opened! (this shows angmoh is stronger than Yixin) we hurriedly got the ring out and cycled away. too paiseh to hang around la.
and all was good until all of a sudden, it rained. heavily. we wanted to try and make it to the bicycle store, but the rain was simply too big and I couldn't see properly. we had no choice but to stop at a nearby pavilion, along with other stranded people. sure didn't feel good standing there just watching the gloomy weather.

when the rain got a little smaller I decided we should hold our umbrella and cycle to the shop, like what others were doing. i was getting ready to Chiong when I heard Yixin shout behind me - he fell off his bike. Haiyo. turns out he can't cycle with only one hand. so the two of us (me with umbrella and him without) made it to the bicycle store and returned the bikes. then we had to hunt for a shower and 7-11 to buy plasters for Yixin.

he's always the one falling down! anyway after that we went to sakae at citylink to have the teatime buffet! didn't expect the journey from east coast to town to be so short. after the very full meal we decided to go watch gulliver at marina square.

and I saw this awesome poster of jay and had to take a photo with it! can't wait for green hornet to be released :) oh yea I was talking about gulliver. I think it's the funny way the small people speak and act that makes the show really entertaining.

okay cruise report coming up soon!

it's 2011!

All taken by steffie! Except for the top right one which was requested by her.

I finally did some exercise! went to play badminton with yixin on new year's eve. Very little people were playing that day, probably preparing for countdown heh. Later at midnight when fireworks erupted everywhere, i was in the toilet washing my face -.- So i came out for a while to watch the tv and said "wahh it's 2011". for some reason i didn't feel too excited about the new year, it just felt like any other day. to me, life just keeps moving forward, so many things not done, so many more things to start on.

Yesterday for dinner my mum wanted to go to sunshine place and eat mixed vegetable rice, but dad and i didn't like the idea. So dad started driving and then the rain came. It was so heavy! lot 1 carpark was full, so on and on he drove on the highway until the rain stopped and we ended up having steamboat at tian wai tian in serangoon! all thanks to the rain :)

Cute proposal

Yixin with my cardigan tied around him! heh. a bit gay hor.

Anyway the day after coming back to singapore I went to school early in the morning for ureca. We started on some simple stuff like extraction and learnt a little about the mass spectrometry machine. The computer settings looked so complicated, i'm glad they didn't allow undergraduates to operate the machine. Quite sure if I did it, something would mess up somewhere. The results were also nothing like what we learnt in H3 chem, there was a lot of 'noise' that made it really hard to look at the peaks properly. Apparently you can run MS in certain modes to make sure the peaks look better or to detect a wider range of peaks. So cool right. Had a hard time learning how to prepare the sample for MS too, we had to 'spot' the samples onto tiny circles that are so closely packed together on a metal plate. My pipetting skills are so gonna improve after this.

Today i had ureca too, and we learnt how a HPLC (High performance liquid chromatography) works. I learnt the theory in H3, but when it comes to the actual machine there are tubes everywhere and looks really complicated. Once again, computer settings are the worst, but i suppose we'll get used to it over time. Then we had a lab meeting where we listened to one of the lab members present her work. Fought so hard to keep my eyes open! I was so hungry by the end of it all, but we were called to talk to our prof right after the talk. By the time he stopped, it was already 330pm :( Was so hungry i gobbled down my teriyaki chicken bento. Lucky for me, the auntie gave me larger servings than usual, though i think it's cos of the holidays. Didn't do much after the very late lunch.

Went to meet up with shiyun they all for weishi's birthday! really long time no see. Wanted to go for kbox, but not all of us were keen, so we went to the esplanade area to chit chat. Not long after we reached jacq was approached by some people asking us to present a rose to a girl! Turns out the boyfriend was gonna propose to her. How sweet right! So we all lined up and kinda marched into the restaurant (in a single file) and gave the girl the roses. Then the boyfriend appeared and went down on his knee and held out a ring! Aww. For a moment i thought the girl was gonna reject the proposal cos she hesitated for so long. But it succeeded anyway, and i felt very happy, like i've done a good deed. Heh. Yixin thinks this is rather cowardly for some reason, and says the guy should be confident enough to handle it on his own without the help of strangers. I still think the idea quite romantic though. After that we had ice cream at MOF and chit chatted. It felt nice, to laugh and talk about random topics. *thinks chimpanzee and frog* Gatherings like this always make me miss the good old '72 times :)

No lab stuff tmr, I mean today, I must go exercise already!

this morning we woke up really late, guess everyone's tired out by the wedding. I was still a little early though, so I spent it watching my vamp diaries again. we had breakfast at the hotel restaurant again, just me and Yixin, cos it was just too expensive to pay. this time I had some omelette that the Chef made, and it was delicious! love eggs :) when we finished we found yixin's mum dad and sis standing outside, turned out they haven't gone for breakfast. so we followed and I had some 豆浆油条*^_^* urghh, I think it's a bad thing that I'm always kept full all the time.

we went to this shopping place that's apparently quite popular with locals and tourists alike - sungei Wang. we split into pairs so it was easier to walk around, so I followed Yixin around cos he wanted to buy his games. we did do some window shopping, then spent the rest of the time eating! we had these bulgogi burgers for lunch, and dabao-Ed some milk tea for the rest. then we saw this cute store selling 'qqice' -

uh, it actually tastes a lot better than it looks.

at night the whole family went to a seafood restaurant for dinner. as usual there's always more than what we can finish, and I had to help clear the crabs cos nobody wanted to eat alr! I just cldnt let such good stuff go to waste Haii. we celebrated yixin's dad and aunt's birthday too, and were pleasantly surprised when everyone in the restaurant sang the birthday song too.

after the dinner we went back to yixin's aunt's place and us kids sat around and played bomberman again! this time I hav more experience alr, so I managed to win a game once :) we had so much fun, we didn't want to leave until it was 1am and had to return to the hotel alr.

I'll be returning to Singapore tmr!

3rd night in msia

Turned out the bathtub I wanted to soak myself in last night was for show only. all the plugs were taken out so it can't be filled up. boo. after we all took turns showering, yixin's sis did manicure for us girls! so pretty. was quite stressed when I did hers cos I don't have much experience. when I was young my cousins and I often played with my aunt's nail polish heh, the good old times. we ended up sleeping only at 2 plus in the morning, when the crowd opposite the hotel was still making a lot of noise. haha. it's Christmas!

this morning we had breakfast buffet at the restaurant downstairs. there was this pretty white piano in the middle of the restaurant, but no one was playing it :( what a waste! wish I knew how to play the piano. food was good, I especially liked the beehoon and chicken sausages.
_____________________
it's already my 3rd night here in msia. didn't manage to blog cos we stayed over at yixin's aunt's house in order to wake up in time to fetch the bride. woke up like 4 plus in the morning, and we only slept at ard 1 am cos we were playing bomberman. so ard 5 plus we set off for the bride.

I've never been involved in the whole wedding process, i usually just go for the dinner. today I got to experience it all firsthand! there's actually a lot of traditional customs that I didn't know about. like the couple has to give the younger generation angbaos, then the older generation has to give angbaos to the couple, everyone in the house included! so throughout the day, I've accumulated 5 angbaos already :) and then the wedding stuff can only be held by females. when the bride leaves home, gates have to be closed to signify the leaving of a daughter from the family. a bit cruel right. and then to signify that the bride has left and then come back to visit her family - 回娘家, the bride has to walk around the car a few times before entering the house again. I'm sure i missed a lot more though, cos the whole thing was done in Cantonese. oh and it sure was cold in the morning. not sure where I was in msia, but it was one of those kampung areas. totally felt like I was stepping into winter when I stepped out of the car.

pretty flower that was on my hand, made Yixin wear it to take a photo. heh.

at the wedding I helped out with the attendance taking cum angbao collection. it was a bit of a challenge since they all speak Cantonese and I'm pretty much a noob at that. luckily everyone else knows Cantonese so I occupied myself with putting crosses on the seating arrangement plan. planning a wedding is sure not easy. guests kept walking around after they were seated so we weren't sure if the table was really empty. wanted to close some tables but when the wedding was gonna start all the people appeared back at their seats. haiyo.

I had a bit of fun throwing rose petals over the couple, yet another first time again! was very happy when the banquet finally started, ate a lot of the dishes that were served first. I think I ate like over 10 prawns, I was the only one at the table who attacked the prawns with my hands haha. super unglam! had a lot of red wine too, resulting in a very red face and neck. oh well, alls worth it for my fav wine.

by the time we returned to his aunt's house, we were all so tired that we promptly fell asleep on the sofa. it was already 9pm when we woke up! this is what lack of sleep+alcohol does to people. headed out for a quick dinner, didn't have a lot cos tummy's still full from lunch. but I still loved the chicken in black-and-sweet sauce(dunno how to describe la!) and the fried lai liu ha(is it crayfish?)

now everyone's asleep except for me and Yixin, who's happily mugging his chemistry. I shall watch my vampire diaries for a while then!

first day in msia!

I'm now resting in the hotel for a while, goi ng out again soon. as seen from the picture yixin's having a lot of fun with the iPod dock and the king sized bed. totally enjoying the room. we walked around the huge shopping centre just now, but didnt manage to get a lot of stuff cos its mainly branded goods around here.
___________________
just back from a very filling dinner of bak ku teh. it's quite different from what we have in Singapore, I think the taste is more intense, but I still like singapore's version better. yixin's cousins are very nice people, kept filling everyone's tea cups and passing around food to eat. the above 40s have another table to themselves haha. being in Malaysia, one thing I had to get used to was the long travel times. less than one hour is considered reasonably short alr. so i spend most of the time on the car sleeping heh.

oh and that dog in the picture is this super cute retriever/Labrador (can't tell which) puppy who just wants someone to pet her and play with her. according to yixin's cousin she's the neighbour's dog but they dont really take care of it. poor dog. yixin's sis and I petted it as much as we could.

I'm feeling super worn out now. stark contrast to the crowd opposite our hotel; we can hear them even from the hotel room. shall go and soak myself in the bathtub now. now that there's wifi in the room I shall try to blog every day!
